Yesterday was not such a good day. They took his epidural and catheter out which was great-a few less tubes. However, mid-morning he was complaining of some flank pain and within about 30 minutes his entire abdomen and lower back were completely bloated and hard. They did an xray to check placement of his NG tube and to make sure that it was only air accumulating in his abdomen. His tube had moved a bit but was still in correct placement and indeed his abdomen was full of trapped air. He was miserable with pain being a 12 out of 10. They had a difficult time getting his pain under control. He did a lot of walking though to try and get things moving.
Today has started off much better. He has had two bowel movements so they have turned off the suction to his NG tube to see if he can tolerate it. He is now allowed to have ice chips so we'll see how today goes. He is so hungry and so ready to get the NG tube out!
